Fenwick Girls Beats Loyola to Stem Losing Streak in the Regular Season

The Fenwick girl’s hockey team beat Loyola Academy in commanding fashion on Sunday night beating the Ramblers 5-0. The victory put the team in the win column after a three-game losing streak to start the regular season. After falling to Naper Valley, New Trier and Glenbrook, the Friars came out motivated and their high intensity on the ice was clear to see.

Junior Kailyn Dill got the girls on the board with a sweet 5 on 3 unassisted short-handed goal mid-way in the first period. Senior June McMahon added to the lead in the first; assists on the second goal were awarded to sophomores Greta Lyle and Molly Wunderlich.

The Friars scored twice in the second period. The first was Dill’s second goal of the game on a pass from Senior Eleanor Rowe Smiley, and the second was an unassisted goal by Junior Ella Skotty. Then in the third, Skotty notched her second goal of the game, another unassisted tally.

Sophomore goaltender Emma Rychley got the shut out, making a total of 15 saves.

The Friars will play at home this Sunday, November 24 when they face off again against Loyola Academy at 7:30 p.m. at the Edge in Bensenville.
